Kumail has been practising employment law and civil litigation for 20 years. He has conducted trials before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and appeared before the Divisional Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada and numerous administrative tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
Kumail represents employees from all walks of life, and approaches every client and file, no matter how big or small, with a passion for what he does. Whether ensuring that a senior executive is protected when negotiating a contract or a termination package or pursuing a wage theft claim for a domestic or restaurant worker, Kumail brings expertise, creativity and resolve to the table. He works his files diligently, returns calls promptly and focuses on achieving superior results for his clients.
Kumail’s employer clients include many non-profits, charities and co-operatives including social housing providers, arts organizations and social service agencies. He provides proactive advice to his employer clients by keeping them informed of leading cases and the best employment law practices. Most of his clients are referred by other lawyers or workers’ rights organizations.
Kumail also maintains an active practice as a mediator. He mediates civil litigation, workplace, business and community conflicts through Karimjee Resolutions. Karimjee Resolutions. He has trained as a mediator at the Harvard Law School and with the Stitt Feld Handy Group. In addition to mediating, he acts as a third party neutral investigator and designs alternative dispute resolution systems for organizations. Kumail was a part-time Vice-Chair at the Workplace Safety Insurance Appeals Tribunal (2007-2012), adjudicating disputes regarding workers’ compensation.
