Human Rights
Aleem Bharmal, QC is a lawyer with the BC Human Rights Clinic at Community Legal Assistance Society (CLAS), a not-for-profit legal organization advancing dignity, equality and justice in BC. He served as its former Executive Director for 12 years from 2008 to 2019.
Aleem obtained his law degree from the Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia in 1994. He was called to the Bars of both BC and Ontario in 1995 and 1997, respectively.
Aleem has been a presenter on human rights, social justice and access to justice issues and is currently Chair of the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch (“CBABC”) Social Justice Section, on the Executive of the Human Rights Section, and is 2nd Vice-President of the CBABC Board of Directors. He is also a volunteer mentor at the University of British Columbia’s Allard School of Law.
